We are coming to the closing of Day 2 and I already feel that I am at home. I sit writing this update on a lawn chair, on the deck overlooking the ocean. My life is SO hard right now :-) Mary has left us for the day to explore and get to know the area. No alarm clocks for me today, just the sound of a crab (pictured below) scurrying across my floor. He apparently had a sleep over in my room as the doors were shut and there are no other ways to get in. I have made my first Bahamian friend...
Another classmate (Katie) and I went on a walk this morning down the beach. We are on a pretty much deserted part of the island and saw only two other people on our walk. As we came back to meet up with our other classmates, we decided it was the perfect opportunity to take some group pictures.

Handstands with Steve...typical!
The rest of the day was spent exploring very important parts of the island: the local bars. There are three about a mile from where we are staying. We started off in the car and at some points forgot about the fact that we must drive on the left side of the road, not the right. You would not believe how strange it is to make even a right turn while having to stay headed into the left lane. We were the "crazy American drivers" for sure. On the way to the bars, we drove past the local ice cream shop (below).
We kept driving and finally made it to the bar. It may not look like much, but I must tell you, these drinks were incredible. Here is a picture of the bar and the list of drinks they make. While the names may not give away what goes into concocting these magnificent drinks, just know that they all involve multiple types of rum and we didn't mind that one bit.
The porch decorations.
Local beer and the "no idea what's in these, but they're delicious" cocktails...
Right on the ocean.
We decided to get a drink at the next bar and surprise...it was right next door! This tiki hut type bar was again located right on the beach and offered liquor drinks, local beer and a "Bahama Mama". When we asked the bartender what a Bahama Mama was, his response was this, "It puts a pep in your step and a slide in your glide." Well, this was enough to sell us and we all four got one. While he wouldn't tell me exactly what was in it, we did see two types of rum, some sort of pineapple juice and just pure goodness.

The Bahama Mama :-)
The liquor selection. 4 Rums and a few extras.
Lastly, I would just like to show you one of the cutest dogs ever! There are 3 of them here, but my absolute favorite little snuggle bug is this one. HIS NAME IS OOPS!!! Here is also a picture from the beach of the house we're staying at.
The dog OOPS!! so cuuuuuute :-)
