We went for a drive and pulled up to this area that looked like an abandoned port or dock area. This actually was the place that they filmed Pirates of the Caribbean! Apparently, the crew came in and paid some guy $20,000 to get a building permit before the island could refuse them filming there. They dredged a port area and built long docks. Turns out, the ships that they filmed on were actually sitting in this area on barge type equipment. When they were done filming, they literally took off and left behind the remains of their area without cleaning up. Here are some pictures:
This is where all of the trailers were. That building was the director's headquarters.
View of one of the ports there.
This is one side of the port that they cleared meant for filming underwater scenes.
A building on one of the docks that was used to line up the extra cast members so they knew which boat to get on for the day.
The other side of the dock where they would bring in more of the ships to film on.
The closer object is a stand type thing where they would build the boats on to so they could film scenes.
The dock with the old extra's building.
Extra cast members would line up every morning according to color.
This is a close up of the stand that held each of the ships.
After filming, they tried burning most of the ships and stuff. This is a piece of one of them. There was also a mast to one of the ships laying on the shore.
